How to maintain my pool?
I have an in ground pool.
How should I run the water pump daily or weekly. Also how many times a week should I connect the vacuum cleaner?
I am completely clueless
Pool is 28 by 14ft 14000 gallons based on my calcs.
Thank you guys!
A combination of all your answers was what I needed. Hard to select best answer as they all are great.
Chemicals should be added once a week. You should have stabilizer, chlorine or some sanitizer, shock, ph up(soda ash), ph down(sodium bi sulphate), Alkalinity Up (Baking Soda) ,folloculant ( binds small junk together), decalicifier ( prevents calcium scaling), algae preventer ( helps stop chl resistant algae from forming).
The amounts will be on the back of the chemical usually with an initial amount being the amount you put into brand new water and the weekly amount which you use the rest of the time. When using your test kit remember to balance ph first then chlorine. Alkalinity can be balanced at any time but it will raise your ph when added so add a little ph down with it to balance it out
Vacuum as needed if its the self propelled one that connects and runs around the pool just leave it in there and take it out when you use the pool.
As for pump running usually all my pools run a circulation pump 24/7 which is constantly filtering the water usually with a turnover rate of once per 12hrs for the bigger pools. That means in 12 hrs every drop of water in that pool has been filtered thru the system. Add water to top off the pool as needed
I dont know what kind of filtering system your using though you can usually tell on the side of it.
Cartridge filters- follow safety instructions and remove, spray down with pressure washer and reinstall
Sand filter - if sand is older then 5 yrs remove the sand and lateral assembly and replace. If its still good simply backwash once a week to clean said filter of junk and debris then put it on rinse to clean the filter head.
Most of this stuff if you forget or arent sure about can be easily found out and purchased at any professional pool supply store.
Enjoy your pool and if you get stuck feel free to ask again
