Aquarium filters: UV sterilizer or ozonizer?
I'm thinking of getting an aquarium with a biological filter but i dont know which to add: a UV sterilizer or an ozonizer. Iv'e heard the Uv lamp also kills beneficial bacteria, so I'm going to put the UV lamp or ozonizer after the filter so the beneficial bacteria is preserved. (hint hint, put that out of the decision
) Which should I use? don't forget things like:
price
life-span
obviously, efficiency
any harm to fish, plants, or humans?
Cool! Well, so far it looks like the UV is the most popular. I'll wait a little longer to see pros and cons.
By the way, I need to find the cheapest website that I can buy and ozonizer or UV sterilizer. Help?
P.S. Do they work more efficienty together?
I am getting a UV sterilizer this week and after researching online I discovered that while it can kill free floating beneficial bacteria, most of the beneficial bacteria are attached to surfaces such as the gravel, glass, plants, etc. Also, I use Seachem Stability when I conduct water changes and from Seachem's website a representative stated that as long as the UV sterilizer is turned off for generally 24 hours, the bacteria released will be fine. Hope that helps.
