Can i use wood and rocks for reptile terrariums in my aquarium?
Are these items natural, found items or are they products sold specifically for reptiles? I ask because many products sold in pet stores for reptiles have a warnings about not being used in aquariums because they have been coated with an anti microbial solution to help prevent the spread of bacteria and what not in a reptiles aquarium. This can end up poisoning an aquarium. Many of these items may also have metal wires or pins in them that will rust when fully submerged.
However is these are natural items like malaysian driftwood or rocks, or even items you have found and decided to use, they are likely safe. You'll want to boil them to make sure they are sanitary, and remove any potentially hitchhiking bacteria, parasites or fungi. I'd also suggest testing any rocks by dripping a bit of vinegar on them, if they fizz they're a no go as they'll make your fish sick. But if you get no reaction they should be safe after a thorough cleaning.
Best of Luck!
