How do I get the pressure down on my pool pump?
I have cleaned all the skimmer baskets. and pump basket.
I put new sand in my filter last night , put in 150 lbs of new sand.
Made sure the air was out of the tank.
I have a new pump that was installed last year and did not have a problem last year pressure was between 5 and 7 lbs and I would back wash at 10 pounds.
I now have pressure beginning at 7 pounds and after about 3 hours of running the pool since I opened it up the pressure is up to 10-12. I am afraid to run the pump while I am work afraid the pressure will get too high and ruin the pump and motor while I am gone. Any suggestions?
Is this the input pressure to the filter or the output pressure to the pool?
Either way it isn't much of a problem. You did a major change to the system by adding sand and blocking up the flow of water in doing so. This will increase the input pressure to the filter. Each filter system will run at different pressures and can fluctuate greatly (sometimes by 20psi or more). 12psi is fine for all pvc fittings and pipes so you won't have any problem there. Centrifugal pumps run best at higher back pressures anyway so there's no harm there either.
Give your pool a month to even out and then you will get the proper pressure readings and can begin your maintenance of backwashing according to your new pressure readings.
*EDIT*
According to the email I just received from you this would be the input pressure to the filter. It is a stainless steel filter tank with a single gauge located on top of the tank. This measures the pressure inside the tank and indicates the input pressure.
Just thought I would put this little addition to the information on there for anyone else reading this Q&A
