Does a high power Black Light work as a GERMICIDAL LAMP?
I read in wiki that to kill germs, mold, fungus in the air or water. That 200nm-400mn wavelength is what works. Now a Black light is 350-400nm.
It might work, but poorly. The shorter wavelengths are more energetic, and do more damage to the micro-organisms. A good germicidal lamp will really damage your eyes, so if you want to experiment with this make sure that you aren't exposed to the bulb while it's on.
Germicidal Light Bulbs for Cleaner Air – Keeping your Kitchen Fresh
In modern times with so many contaminants and pollutants being released into the air, a person may want to consider using germicidal light bulbs for cleaner air. Shockingly, it’s estimated that most kitchens and homes have up to double the amount of contamination contained in the air than city air does. Air can build up and become stagnant in the home, filled with pet dander, spores, mold, household contaminants, and other unpleasantness. Fortunately, through the use of ultraviolet air purification, this air can be purified and recycled, reducing the risk of respiratory symptoms, among other health issues.
UV rays are naturally produced by the sun, as Earth’s own purification system for the outside air. The ultraviolet radiation cannot be seen by the naked eye, but performs a very important service for us all by destroying outside parasites, bacteria, mold and mildew. This keeps the outdoor air fresh and breathable. Unfortunately, when sunlight cannot reach the indoors, these harmful substances can multiply. This is where germicidal light bulbs come in as a natural sanitation method. They have been used for years now in doctor’s offices, hospitals, and other areas where major air purification is needed, and now are available for home use.
UV rays also help the body produce Vitamin D, which is important in overall health and feelings of well-being. Including germicidal light bulbs in the home is beneficial for this overall feeling of health as well. Simply turning on this type of light produces an immediate difference in the atmosphere. UV technology can also be used to purify water, and in fact is used by the city of New York, making their tap water the highest rated in terms of purity in the nation. Why not bring this same technology used by NASA and the city of NYC into your own home?
Mold affects most homes in the USA at the moment. Using ultraviolet technology just makes sense to avoid all of the flu-like symptoms that can arise as a result of spore inhalation. By using germicidal light bulbs for cleaner air, the whole family will breathe a little easier within the home, making it a haven from the pollution of the outdoors. In this kind of contaminated environment, every little bit of help should be utilized to keep people in your household strong and healthy. This is such a simple, natural way of harnessing the sun’s energy to make your own quality of life a little bit better.
