Gold Dojo Loach: Will he eat Red Cherry Shrimp?
It's been recommended on here that I get some red cherry shrimp for my planted tank. However, I have a gold dojo loach, and they're known to eat invertebrates. Are the shrimp a no-go? The loach is about four inches long right now.
Even as an adult, a Dojo Loach will be almost entirely incapable of eating Cherry Shrimp. Most fish will only eat the shrimp if they find them moving (I lost several to a hungry Dwarf Pike), and RCS are very good at sitting still. Also, the Loach will stay pretty near the substrate, while Cherry Shrimp tend to enjoy climbing on the plants, removing any settled detritus, so they won't even come into contact terribly often. Even if the Dojo picks off a couple shrimp, they breed fast enough to quickly rebound their population.
