Can a fire-bellied newt and a beta fish live together?
I have a male beta fish living in a four-pint tank and was wondering if a small fire-bellied newt (will grow to be about two inches long) can live together peacefully. Or will the beta fish get all territorial?
The living space may be kind of small. But still, I could get a bigger tank to put them both in. So would they live together well? Or should I put them in separate tanks?
I have had an aquarium that had five fish in it, one of which was a beta fish. It all depends on the temperament of your beta. You can put some kinds of things in with them. They can not have bright colors or flashy bodies. They must be passive, nothing aggressive. It seemed like the beta would chase them around and try bullie them all the time so they have to be fast. I had a few sucker fish him and they were not bothered as much. I think the bright belly of the newt might set the beta off but the fact that it was not a fish might turn off the beta. I would give it a try. Be careful thought I once had a fish get bigger than my beta, one day getting tired of the bullying perhaps, and almost kill him.
